If you've never carried a BHP or 1911 before, the whole "cocked and locked" thing will take some time to get comfortable with.

Some deal with it by leaving chamber empty and hammer down. If you want to look like Hollywood (rack the slide and say something "cool" before putting rounds downrange), I guess that would be acceptable. As for a defense posture, it's not terribly useful to carry this way.

The other weird part is how you empty a loaded firearm. Step 1, drop the mag. Step 2, drop the safety (while hammer is cocked). Step 3, rack the slide.

Clearly you should firmly obey the fundamental rules during this process -- having it pointed at something precious and having a booger hook on the bang switch can present an ugly situation.

yeah I have a buddy with a Para that I like. Not sure which model, it's older like a single double.

STI makes an outstanding 1911.
I would look into that before Kimber or a new Colt. Just a better product/bang for your buck.

I'm a big 1911 fan. My "small" carry is a Sig 938 which is a baby 1911 in 9mm. Cocked and locked with one in the spout is the only way to go. The 938 shoots really well for a small gun, but the mags are a bear to load. The last two rounds are hard as you know what to get stacked. My "big" carry is a Kimber Super Carry Pro.

I have several. I have a Colt dated 1913. I have several Kimber's including the Desert Warrior, the Super Carry, and a few others. I have one Kimber that there were only 25 made. They were made for Sheriff Joe out in Az. He only took 22 and some one else got two and I ended up with one. It has some added features that most don't have. I think I may only have pics of the Warrior, maybe I can take some of the others and post later. I can't seem to find the pics of any of my pistols they may have been lost on my last computer. I guess I need to start over.

Hey, can I "borrow" a 1911?

Know the feeling. My daughter has one that she tells me is safe.
