If the link copies here, this video shows the rescue of two small children from a car that had been turned upside down in water during the recent storms in Texas.

One of the people trying to save the children calls repeatedly for somebody to give him a knife.

I would have thought that every one of those Texans would have a knife in his pocket! Why not two? And maybe something on the belt as well.

Just another reminder to keep a sharp edge at hand.

Larry,

My Microtech OTF is equipped with a glass break and serated edge which would come in handy for shearing seatbelt webbing. Not saying everyone should carry this one, but something would have been better than nothing. Any knife in your pocket is better than the perfect one you left at home.

Knives are like pickups -- if you don't have one, you're borrowing one eventually.

I keep one of these on my console--breaks glass and cuts belts.

Couple years back I found fluorescent orange steel hammer glass bingers with belt cutters at Ace or Lowe's. Got 6 for Christmas stocking stuffers. They fit great in glove, side or center compartments for easy access!

If you think you have a edge on your blade go cut a seatbelt then you will know where ya stand.

I cut someone out of a turned over vehicle about 10 years ago. Since I retired, I always have a knife (or two) on me.

We carry a knife in the car with a "glass breaker" on the end. We thought we would leave it on the console. But if you are in a crash, who knows where the knife will end up. So we keep it in a compartment between us, up above the windshield. I think the compartment is designed for sunglasses.

Good plan Rod! I used to be a Sales Rep for Head Racquet Sports covering 6 states prior to cell phones. Through training, I set my compartments up by memory so that I could always find same tool-need in the same place. Which is what we still do today.

Chief, to your point, practice on an old seat belt and technique on glass breaking if possible. Also, as most of us know... it's a lot different when it's real!!

I'm with you Larry. I can't believe the number of people I know that do not carry a knife.
