That is a nice piece of wood. I don't recall mesquite being used before "but" you never know. I do know it's one of my favorite grill/smoking woods. Nice find at the Spring sale and you got good advice.

Model 26 w/ carbon blade, copper hilt, spacers and buttcap. Blade stamped S, etched with a C. Kinda cool cool

I "think" Scott said there would be 9 of these available at this last sale.

Very nice, Michael. One of those came in a close second to the 4-7 that I picked. Very unique with the copper fittings and that stamp. Great choice.

Very cool Mike. Can’t recall ever seeing a C etched into the blade. Nice piece of stag too.

It's not a friendly wood for craftsmen.

I have a chunk that'll eventually end up on a pair of Randall knives.

Rob,

I would check to see if that grain is running in the right direction. That chunk looks cross grain and that might matter (or not).
I'm editing to add it looks correct when I looked closer.

Thanks for the heads-up.

The grain is running end-to-end, the cross markings you see are blade chatter marks (that surface is not smooth).

Here's another side, with a smoother surface:
