Found this thread about Drop Point-Hunters. I have 2. Black micarta and Wood. The wood one is without a metal hilt. Does anyone know how common these are without the metal hilt? It also has the less tapered tang.

It looks (to me) like the wood handled one may actually be a Triathlete in disguise. ..

Possibly a rehandle job? If so, a nice one at that.

I think it looks as though a Model #10-5" could have been altered, both blade shape and SFG handle & scales. What is the thickness of the blade stock?

The shape of the that tang, matching the Griffin hande would make eother of those modifications difficult.

It is 1/4" blade stock. I believe the blade ricasso is more exposed because the lack of the hilt which is causing confusion. I have added additional photos. I do think it is a Dave Griffin Full tang hunter.

Eric,
I have never seen a DP without a hilt. My observation as a comparison to the #10 was grind, blade stamp placement, etc....not to infer that it, indeed "was" a Model #10 blade. If it had been made from 3/16" stock, a broken Model #6-9" or the like could have been the origin. In 1/4" stock, those possibilities are off. Below is a close up of the area I was referring to. 1st shot is my Griffin DP and the 2nd is a #10-5", customed-up for me by Dave Griffin..."at the Randall shop"!
You knife is a "way-cool" piece and I would love to have it. Good luck with it.
Best, Capt. Chris

Just to put the overall "size" difference to scale, here's the 2, in whole.
Best, Capt. Chris
