Hello, would anyone know the brand and current source for the original segma snaps used on the Heiser early sixties era sheaths.
Not after the brown button, just the oem painted steel items used when the shops ran out of brown buttons.

No, the ebay items are not the same, although the old Tandy snaps from Springfield Leather Company do look close.

Regards.

I think it was union carr, but not sure that supplied the glove type snaps for early sheaths. I can tell you the Springfield is different!!!! Joe would be the go to guy for this one.

Segma snaps

These are what I have been looking for...the bottom post is brass, the top half is steel.

For the setting tools ebay is the easiest, and you want the segma line 16 belt snap tool.

Regards.

Interesting company. Thanks for the link. Curious, are you doing a repair job on a Heiser sheath?

I picked up an unsnapped Heiser on ebay a month ago and have matched it with an unused late 60's stag 3-6.

Or, if it has been used in any way I cannot see it, with or without 3x optical aid.

The knife is for my own personal use and is not for sale.

That's a great looking knife and sheath. Not too many Heiser sheaths running around without the keeper snap in place. Let us know if the new snap mates well with the old one. I'm sure others will appreciate the link you provided.

Welcome to the forum, BTW and thanks for the photos!

Update for those interested.

The Tandy snaps on Ebay are a tad too long in the shank for the Heiser keeper strap, but the top snap cover is almost a perfect colour match...so using the coated brass snap from the link above and the Tandy snap cover listed on Ebay one gets an item that works well and has somewhat harder lift than the baby dot on the current model 21 Sullivan sheath and slightly less than the original Heiser snap.

The coated steel snap from the above listed site and the Tandy brown snap cover pretty much nails the project if one wishes to make everything indistinguishable from original...especially if one uses an early crafttool anvil to give a slightly flatter dome on the snap cover.

I opted for the brass snap and Tandy snap cover as I am not overly interested in collecting.

Regards.
