Thanks for showing those wonderful S&W's.I noticed you have a trigger shoe on what looks like a 19.I had one on my 2 1/2 in for
years due to round butt,so it would fit my hand better. Most of mine have pinned barrels .Still have the first 2 I bought in 1969 at the ripe old age of 21.

Tune,
The only thing wrong with your 657 is it isn't mine.I let a guy talk me out of my 4in blue 57 in the 70's and have regretted it ever since!!Nobody has been able to talk me out of any since. The guy at the Birmingham show that always has a ton of S&W's I stand
at his display and drool for an hour every time I go to the Birmingham show.

The best thing about the gun is it used to be Grady McCotter's.

If a better Randall man was ever made..... well.

Here's my S&W Performance Center 627 5" in a custom Greg Gutcher "slip-on" holster. My woods gun in bear country with 8 shots. Very accurate and a super nice shooter.

Copy that Pat!!!! It HURTS!

I shoot .38's for practice and that's still a handful. It will shoot plus P as well.

Even though it's a 44 mag,, with the rubber grips and extended barrel length, this gun is a blast too shoot. Doesn't tire or hurt anywhere near what you would think. My favorite smile

According to the Blue Book of Gun Values S&W made 200 p&r 629's in the early 1980's.

Here are three of them.

I also have a favorite non p&r 629.

It's amazing what Magnaporting will do for reducing recoil. It will also reduce your ability to hear if you don't wear plugs.

Favorite hunting handgun for years; extreme overconfidence to 125 steps on bucks, does, coyotes, spring gobblers, & who knows how many groundhogs. Only shoots my handloads......same as my other 44Mags. I've loved this cal. for quite a while.

You flung a craving on me with that 60 with the unfluted cylinder.
I have seen a lot of S&W's over the last 40 odd years with non fluted cylinders. This is a first for me.I really like it .
Thank you for posting it.

Victory model, Billy, (same thing as a model 10). This one lettered as shipped to the US Navy in California in 1943. It was bought home by Col. John M. Arthur. A little googlin' should turn him up, he commanded a regiment of the 2nd Marines during the Island campaigns. (His service from memory, but I know the provenance).

I know I am digging up an old thread, but I do love the old S&W's!

In the past month I have been lucky to add a pair of Model 15's and a nice 6" Model 28 Highway Patrolman to my collection.

Those are really nice.
Back in 1968,we could purchase new Highway Patrolman S&Ws through the department for $68.

Those were the days!!!

S&W Model 58s went for just a little over that.

Thanks!

Back when I first became a LEO (Late 1970’s), I paid around $150.00 for the 6” Model 28 that I bought to carry on duty. When I transferred to the local Sheriff’s Office, we were issued the 4” Model 15’s.

I foolishly sold off my Model 28 and have regretted it ever since. So when I found this one down at the gun shop in town for a decent price, I jumped on it!

I would love to have a 58 someday:)

Eric,
Will that 625-7 be able to shoot 45acp w/moon clips??

Some 625s could do that. I guess it is the series.

MIC214,
The Highway Patrolman was an excellent example of the "economy" Model 27.

Some years ago,Gil Hebard Guns was selling Model 28s that had been in the NY State Police inventory with the state markings.
Price was very reasonable. Wish I had purchased one.

Wayne, Not sure. I am not a fan of moon clips. I shoot .45acp with my 1911 and SIG P320. I like the cowboy round better.

Eric,
Years ago, officer on the Memphis,TN Police dept had a choice to what duty weapon they could use.

One of them was the Model 25 that could handle the 45acp rounds.

This,of course, was some years before PDs switched over to autos.

Nothing round with the 45LC. It is accurate and has a proven track record.
