Well, I did say I was going to attempt to make a "spirit of the original" type of replica of the top knife here:

The first B&T built my Mr Bo Randall for his friend Mr Steinman

Here is the result:

The blade is from 1/8th O1 toolsteel and is 3.75" inches from cross guard to tip. I could have cut the handle, which is 4.4" and gotten closer to the original look - as per this pic where I cut the handle off:

But decided against it - first of all, it makes the knife less comfortable and secondly, it does not look out of proportion as is, so why fix what ain't broke?

A few more. Still need to make a sheath for it....

And Ron (Bo-Blade) was spot on - the 1/8th stock makes it a very nice B&T that would fillet very well, but it is just not thick enough for an all rounder, every day user.

Thanks for looking, and comments welcome

Looks great, Willem! You sure whipped that out quickly! Even if I had the skill, it would take me a week of Sundays to make something like that. One question: Did you solder the blade to the hilt. It looked like you did on the 1st one. I don't see any evidence of a solder fillet on this one.

Best,

Hi Ron, thanks, glad you like it. I spend a lot of time in my shop - about 14 to 16 hours a day, mostly on orders, that range from small folders to broad swords, but I leave a few hours at the end of each day for my projects and custom knives I like to make, and that is where this one fits in. It is actually not a very difficult or complicated knife to make, so it goes quite quickly all and all.

The fillet is there - it is just not too clear - I will try and take some better pics a little later. I also used an industrial epoxy on the tang, as well as pinning it, so despite it being a real slim and slick little B&T, it is a very strong little knife too smile

I will try and get to the sheath too today, and post up pics later.

I would think that the 1/8th stock would make a great skinning knife.

Thanks Steven, glad you like it smile Walter, you are 100% right - that blade would make an awesome skinner and being relatively thin it will also be a great filleting knife - i.e perfect for bird and trout..

Awesome job Willem! I think 1/8" thick blades looks and would preform great in most applications. I like your spacer arrangement the most. Looking forward to seeing more of your knives.

Very nice, Willem. I don't know any knife nut that wouldn't be proud to have that jewel in their collection.
