While at the shop this past January, I spoke with Gary about the new 'ivory micarta' they are using. Apparently, there were some quality consistency issues that had to be resolved to his satisfaction before the material would become a regular offering. He was very excited about its future availability and optimistic that it would serve their purposes and meet customer demands for this type of handle material.
He explained they had to have the assurance that the white would not change color and that material removal during final shaping and finishing did not produce defects in the material. I assume all RMK quality assurance standards were met or exceeded or they would still be searching.
I was so impressed with the appearance, I liberated two knives: a #5-6" SS and a #11-5" SS that just 'happened' to be in the display case during my visit! Had I not seen the ivory micarta in person, I would not have been drawn to it. But, it produces very handsome knife handles indeed!
I hope this helps.
