Just wanted to bring this up…
Individual is graduating this year from West Point. Not sure if he is going Ranger route or Special Forces (or an entirely different path).
Thoughts on recommended knife and options, please.
Moderators. If this needs to be deleted or moved I certainly understand.

I think a Model 1 or Model 2 in a 6" blade and "traditional" fitting (brass hilt, stacked leather handle) would be appropriate.

If Model 2, commando handle shape.

We gave a close young friend who graduated West Point a model 14. He loves it. Uses it. And many fellow soldiers admire and want to hold it. Including his commanding officers!

Tony

Oh, we included a Combat Master sheath.

Some years back,I helped two men get into West Point and kind of steered them towards Airborne (one became an Airborne Ranger).

I gave them both a Model 14.

Actually,any of the combat style Randalls would be a great choice.

Clarification on Westy's knife...It was a Model #5 with a "6" inch blade...not 7". When I'm asked this same question by customers, wanting to get a military/serviceman's knife for someone. I recommend the Model #15-5 1/2" because of all you get @ N/C.
* Full, exposed tang construction
* Heavy brass double hilt
* Black or green micarta
* Ambidextrous finger grips
* Wrist thong
* Model "C" sheath
..."&"...The #15 can be mounted, straight-up, inverted or otherwise on a Mae West, pack, etc...
....Just Sayin',
Capt. Chris

Like Capt. Chris's suggestion.

Practical and durable knife.

Not flashy.

Maybe owner's name added to the blade....

Friend of mine's son graduated from high school in May.
He joined the Air Force and left for basic last week.
His Dad wanted to get him a Randall.I called Cap and
he had a 15 with stainless blade and nickle silver hilt.
That was a happy young man.He is an Eagle scout and wants
to be in Para Rescue.I have confidencr he'll make it.

Hope his Dad holds on to it for him until after Boot Camp is over. That knife would be be mighty tempting to steal. Just sayin'.
