Remember when you were a kid and the best place to go look at and or buy a knife was the local hardware store? I stopped in my favorite country hardware store today and snapped a few photos - the "back room" is 1000 SF and is well stocked to say the least. I used to take my son in here when was younger just to watch his eyes glaze over. I'm glad there are still a few mom & pop places left that the big home improvement stores haven't run out yet.

Wow, great store, thanks for the photos. Nothing like that around here.

Thanks Peter.
Ronnie, they are in Cookeville, about a mile off I40 over by the TTU campus. The front half is your standard old school hardware store, you go to the back and up the steps to the knife showroom. Worth the stop if you ever go thru there.

One of the things I enjoy most when on holiday in Florida is seeking out those great hardware stores. My favourite (although not a hardware store) is Ruff's Saddle Shop in Umatilla. Its a bit of a trek from Orlando but it's well worth the drive,it's like stepping back in time and the brothers who own it are real Cowboys, hats, boots and all.I seek them out via the W R Case website, sometimes I'm underwhelmed, occasionally I am pleasantly surprised, but never dissapointed.

Dwight,

That is America at its best right there.

As a young man and carpenter I would go to our local hardware store to buy a tool every week. He also had a large knife selection and camping equipment, but nothing like yours.

I will never forget the owner of that little hardware store; he helped me to develop and tool-up for my career. Nobody like that at the big stores today. What a great place, thanks for sharing.

I-40 in Arizona, Exit 294, Sun Valley Road.
Stopped years ago and was amazed to find this store in the middle of nowhere.
Just follow the billboards.

I always enjoy Rocky Mountain Knife Company in downtown Estes Park, CO. They usually have a few Randalls in the custom case.

Thanks for posting Dwight. I'll be close (kind of) to Cookeville toward the end of the month with my wife taking care of her parents in Oak Ridge and will try to visit this store. Reminded me of getting to visit the Western Auto with my Dad.....still own the .22 Winchester single shots that I got to watch him purchase. Appreciate the post.
