Well, I finally got a little time to work on this Glock 20 short frame and add a few upgrades. I like the Glock Store in San Diego and have bought many of their products for my 2 9mm's, the 19 and 43. Love their triggers and guide rods. Anyway, this 10mm is a real beast and will be my woods and hunting carry. I ordered a Diamond D chest holster for it and it is the best carry setup yet. If you haven't seen one, go on their website.

I do like the Diamond D Chest Holder. Missing the Randall?
I have one for my S&W 629 Alaskan Backpacker.

The Glock Model 40 is the one I want to get for the same purpose of a woods gun. Already comes with a 6" barrel, but I wonder if the smallest grip backstrap gives the same reach as the SF frame?

Were you able to check both of them out when you were shopping for the G20SF?

I bought mine at the Boise Cabelas and all they had were Gen 3 Model 20SF's so I didn't get to compare with the standard frame. There is a YouTube on the subject if you search Glock 20 that shows the slight difference.

I do like my Diamond D holster and ordered it with the extra upside-down mag holder. That gives me a total of 31 rounds with the 15+1 in the Glock and the extra 15 round clip. Also no conflict with my Randall carry either or GPS, cell phone, etc. Very handy setup.

Mike,

I have the same Glock 20SF, tuned to my personal preference, that I use as my backcountry gun in Idaho. I added high contrast tritium night sites to it, as well as an extended slide stop and a lightened trigger to 3.5 pounds. Here it is with its prettier but less consistently reliable partner, the Dan Wesson Razorback in 10mm.

The Wesson shoots more accurately but it costs three times as much and has half the capacity. The Glock can be carried on my motorcycle, get wet and dirty, and still go "BOOM!" And, with the right ammo load, that "BOOM!" can be quite impressive.

Best wishes,

Hi David,

I added the following to my Glock 20 SF:

Paramid trigger set at 3.5 lbs
Amerigo CAP night sights
Heavy tunsten guide rod, stock 17lb spring
Aluminum extended mag release
American Flag slide cover plate
Talon grips
Extended slide release
Backstrap plug
Brass Stacker extended slide lock
SS pin kit

Most all from The Glock Store. Great customer service and their catalog is the bomb. I like the Brass Stacker slde lock since it is angled vs straight from the Store. Since you frequent Idaho and other Grizzly states, you need to look at the Diamond D Guide chest carry. I can't say enough accolades about it's design and quality.

Yeah, but that Razorback is class with a capital K.

Unfortunately, the Razorback's slide locked up on the frame like it was welded there after only three rounds. I had to send it back to DW for replacement. They were good about it, but I was more than a little disappointed. It still needs some breaking in.

Mike,

That's the problem with Glocks: What you get out of the box is just the basic platform for a whole host of modifications that you need to make them run properly. Sometimes I feel like I am putting perfume on a goat. Granted, the goat always does what it is supposed to do, but it is still just a goat.

The Diamond D looks interesting, especially if you are carrying a pack. Thanks.

It's not that the stock Glock doesn't perform, it's a matter of adding a few options. Kinda like buying a stock Randall, carbon steel and leather handle. It works great, but a "Bone Brad" works just slightly better!!
