On this day, in History, The Alamo fell.

187 Volunteer “Texians” held off an expeditionary force of 5,000 Mexican soldiers for 13 days in San Antonio, Texas.

All of the defenders that were not killed in the battle itself were executed on the same day.

Thanks, once again, Coach for giving me my reminder of important historical dates in our history, and GOD knows this is one.
And please Tom, give me the context for that D. Crockett quote as I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the same date, place and time as Coach is referring to. It’ll worry my poor, feeble memory to death until I know.
Who was digging what outta’ Davy where and when???
AND was he using a Jim Bowie knife or what???
See!!??
Without good intel. I’m already making up my own to fill in the history and this is how bad history and conspiracy theories begin!!

Interesting read on Jim Bowie’s knife at the Alamo:

Also on Crockett’s quote:

It was from a play about David Crockett's life called The lion of the West. A screamer in 1830's America was some one you don't want to mess with.I.E. a bad ***.

That quote is from a line in the 2004 movie, "The Alamo". The movie was a flop at the box office but many agree it is the most accurate version of the Texas War of Independence. John Wayne fans sometimes get upset when I say it is my favorite. It was directed by a native of my home town.
I watched it on February 23rd. Today I will watch the John Wayne version.

We got a town liberty when I was at boot camp at Lackland AFB. I went to the Alamo then a steak dinner. It was the best day of my short 6 week visit.

Back during WW2, my Grandmother’s brother Uncle Neal, was a Border Patrol Agent. They lived somewhere around Uvalde, Texas.

His son had been killed in France. My Grandfather made the decision to make the trip for the funeral. My Dad was 12-13 and he told me that the trip was hard.

They went through San Antonio on the way there and my Grandfather said that they would visit the Alamo on the return trip home.

My Dad told me that at that time, the Alamo was on the outskirts of town and that it was just about in ruins.

We visited the Alamo when I was 12-13 and by that time, San Antonio had spread out to it. Some of it had been restored and Daddy said it was a lot different from when he had seen it before.
