Mike,

I imagine that "NP" means Name Plate, that the "1" of "ET1" means one line of Blade Etching, as opposed to two, and that "FSB" stands for Flanged Scalloped Butt Cap.

Sounds right. Thanks, Ken. I am assuming that the Border Patrol handle is the standard config with the FSB or it would be listed as a seperate option as well. It also has a flat hilt and thumb notches, so would either of those also be an option?

Pappy,
Are you sure the hilt, collar and butt are nickel silver? Also: The handle is "commando-shaped"...not a "border patrol". Ken is correct, in that ET1 is one line of etching...ET2 obviously 2 lines. The thumb notches are not an option, rather standard on a Model #5. The "Squared" top single hilt is an option and nowadays needs to be specified. It is not a "chargeable: option however and does not count towards the "5". At the time and era that this Camp & trail was made, squared top was the "norm".
As a side note: If you had ordered sawteeth with the usual double hilt, the shop would not have installed thumb notches...and you would have been charged for a double hilt.
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: Did you locate a sheath yet??...CCS

Cap-

I sent this knife to the shop for service and removal of the etching. I received a letter back stating it was a #1 not a #5, and thus the questions. The hilt is definately NS and the collar and butt are definately brass. I understand if it was a #5 that the squared hilt and notches are a standard item, but in this case it was ID'd as a #1. Now what? The shop said they had a sheath so I sent $$ to cover it, thanks.

I asked about the metal as "scalloped" is not available on NS...only brass. Interesting that the shop thought this knife to be a Model #1 when there is no evidence of it that I can see. Better photos might help, but I see no top cutout as is the case with Model #1's. Also unusual to have 2 different types of metal used, i.e. brass collar and butt cap with a ns hilt?? Thanks for the quick reply.
Best, Capt. Chris

Yes, when I sent it to the shop, in my note I said it was a #5 but the return memo from the shop said it was a #1. Who am I to say otherwise. Who knows maybe it's really gold collar and butt; I'd be rich.

Pap-

Chances of it being gold (I know you were just kidding) are not real good. Some years back a customer of mine wanted a Smithsonian with lugged hilt, collar and butt cap in 24karat gold. I priced it out for him (it was about 18K if I remember correctly, he said, OK but GTR said NO WAY!!! Oh well, can't say that I disagreed with his thinking on the subject.

Nice Knife by the way. I would have thought that it was a #5 also.
