Randall

Hello everyone,
I’m new to the forum and also new to the world of Randall knives..I have been a collector of folding knives up until my first Randall acquisition a couple of months ago..Im completely new to collecting fixed blades (Randall’s) and may have some questions or seek some advice from the forum..I aguired this model 8 from a local knife show a couple of months ago..I have a few questions .

1..the stag on one knife has reddish streaks in it,is it red stag, sambar stag or amber stag?

2. The blade stamp on one of my knives is missing the A in FLA just stamped Randall made..Orlando,FL. IS THIS OKAY?

These may be silly questions, but at 63 and disabled ,I don’t have a lot of disposable income and like to keep my knives in nice condition…

The FL and FLA stamps are both fine,no worries there,no picture to see with reference to the handle.

Photos would help..."but":
* Sambar stag (although those critters have many...many variations in color, texture, etc.0 is the sole stag used at the shop. The shop also makes some Sambar stag "premium" by dying it.
* Fl. or Fla. are both kosher as the shop has several stamps which were ordered (& lettered) differently. Back in the good ol' days, prior to the USPS going to a "2-digit" abbreviation for our 50 states, "all" RMK blade stamps were FLA...no more.
Hope this helps. Learn to post photos. WELCOME ABOARD!
Stay Sharp,
Capt. Chris

Thanks guys ,for the info…is their any books you can recommend on Randall knives? Oh I also would like some info…is it ok to use Fritz polish on the blades and Rennasance wax on stag..I like to keep my knives in pristine condition..will this effect the value…I know it sounds silly, just trying to protect my investment…

Both those products are fine. I prefer Puma metal polish but often use Flitz as well. As for "books"? One is best:
" RANDALL MADE KNIVES
The History Of The Man The Blades"
By Bob Gaddis...none better,
Capt. Chris

Some good info in this thread: http://www.knifetalkforums.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=20012#Post20012

FWIW, the above thread is still "active" so if you have a question, post up.

Also all of the links in this second post are good reads and picture show: http://www.knifetalkforums.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=40328#Post40328
