Someone on Facebook posted a pic asking for identification of a knife. It was identified as a model 14. Those responding noted from the profile photo that it had a cut down tang.

Can someone post a few comparison pics of a model 14 with and without a cdt? Thanks

I'm sure you could find what you're looking for in this thread. Same would apply to the Model 15..

#14 CDT is gonna be any #14 you can't see the tang running all the way through....like the 1 posted on Facebook.
Otherwise standard #14 has a fully exposed tang.

14CDT "can" have a bit of tang exposed all the through, if a leather handle or a butt cap is ordered. In those cases the very end of the 1/4" stock is shown, coming through the nut or butt cap.
The purpose of creating the CDT offering was to allow customers to utilize this very strong (& popular) blade with handle material "other" than slotted, i.e. stag, fine woods, leather, etc...
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Below are a couple of examples of RMK Model #14, CDTs I have made in the past, to include a NASA project, started 8 or so years ago for the RKCC...

A few "full, exposed" tang #14's...(The handle material has to be "slotted" to accommodate that big, 1/4" stock exposed tang. I hope this will aid in answering the original question posted here.
Stay Sharp, Capt. Chris
