"S" is for "Special" Mike. It was used (the sheath, that is) for #8-4", "OLD STYLE" amongst a couple of other (GTR-style) knives as well. There was a small Denmark that did not have a sheath-specific designation also, one of, as you know, quite a few different variants before Denmark Sporting Goods finally decided upon their "Dealer Special".
No longer used today, the "S" has been phased out and the "x" has replaced it for the Old Style T&B.
