So I understand the idea behind a chrome plated blade. But how did they work? Did sharpening ever cause loss of integrity of the chrome on the blades?

Curious about your experience with them. My experience with plated weapons is with my Colt detective special in .38 Special and a nickel plated Colt commander in .45 ACP. The plating on both is still nice. But I miss them, as they are with a bud in West Virginia.

I believe most of the chromed Randalls were intended as presentation and display pieces. The majority were Bowies.

Initially, I thought it was to make them “stainless”.

Had a customer send us two chrome-plated Randall Bowies to purchase, one, a brass back Bowie.

But Mitchell may be correct. Sold them back in the eighties.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the information. I was always curious about the chroming.

Now if they brought back the brass backs, I would have to save my loonies for one of those for sure.

Cheers,

Alan

Alan

You may have to explain loonies (and toonies) to our American, and other, friends!

I know about loonies and toonies (twonies?). Been to Calgary and Toronto enough times...

As for brass backs, I'm with Alan, I'd love get my hands on one.

BB Model 1.

A novelty.

From way back when time was more leisurely, and experiments and one-offs could be tried.

Mitchell,
Is that Johnny's? Or is it yours? Rare indeed.
Also: Buck: Initially Model #17, "Astros" were forged in carbon steel and then they were "Rhodium" plated to make them more impervious to corrosion...not "Chromed".
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris
