It doesn't just have to be one of each. Use your imagination if you please....but also "please" limit responses to anything that is "currently doable" from the RMK shop.
Here's the rules:
* Small, for purposes of this topic, is 3/16" stock knives or smaller
* Large is 1/4" stock knives or larger
* Must have to be able to be ordered right, boy-howdy, now!
* Sheaths must be available
* 5-option limit (unless a dealer's special)
* More than one entry, per category, is allowed
* Questions are "WELCOME"!
The rest I'll make up as we go along. Sound good to youze guys?
Also: So...What's the prize? Well: How 'bout I'll build one of each size (large & small) from what is posted in this thread...voted on by youze guys?
How 'bout it? Let me hear from you! Also: Photos would be nice!
Stay Sharp,
Capt. Chris
Example: I am partial to a Model #11-4". It is one the few 3/16" stock knives that can be ordered with finger grips..."&"...it's a helluva' woods hunting knife.
Caveat" This is my stabilized-n-dyed green maple burl and not doable on this topic...under "The Rules" that "somebody just made up!...(Beeez!)

Great topic Capt! I'll pick one of each, a sort of Nessmuk double if you will.

Small has to be a model 26. I have a few other knives that are similar and they're just too darn handy not to include here. Nothing fancy just O1, thumb notches, rounded buttcap, Thuya Burl and a waxed sheath.

Large would be a model 12-9 14 grind. Almost standard model, with a waxed sheath and model 18 hilt (not sure if that's doable?), because this one will get used and abused, in a good way.

For those of you who know me, this will be a huge surprise!

3/16” blade, my choice is a Model 5-4”
1/4” blade, my choice is a Model 5-5”

I know there are better choices for specific tasks, but I have filleted fish and cleaned turkeys with Model 5. IMO a great all round RMK. IF I would order these specific 2 knives again, I would opt for standard spacers or all black and use the spacer option for a thong hole.

Model 7-5 with model 6 grind would be my pet knife of 3/16 flavor.

This was a forum build from 2016. If I were to do it different, I'd drop the stainless and add NS1 to keep it at 5 options, so list of options would be: #7/TN/NS1/RBM/WT

FWIW, a GTR is a close second in my "favorite 3/16" category, it comes with stainless and stag for a really good price.

Jerry--

On the 14-9...A Model 18 hilt with the holes?

Wondering how the holes would be used on this blade?

Capt. Chris and others,

I always thought to use the knife to sharpen whatever might be made into a spear. And keep the knife secure against losing it.

The 12/14 would be awkward to lash onto a pole of some sort and make for a heavy poking end.

Just thinking....

Larry, Capt's first response is correct. I've never found much use for a wrist thong at the back end of a knife. Yes, I know, it keeps you from dropping your knife. A wrist thong at the front on a large knife, however, ensures the knife stays in hand when swinging it. Chopping, delimbing, etc.

I agree, lashing a knife to a pole works about as well as throwing it. I'll keep it on my belt thank you
