The knife pictured here was offered for sale at St Croix Blades. He claimed it was an identified Special Forces Randall #14 used in Vietnam. The asking price was $2450, obo.
I sent Matt a message explaining that the knife was “none of the above”. He didn’t pay me any attention and the knife sold for $2050. Be aware that this knucklehead does not know what he is talking about.

I had this Model #14 with me (though did not use it) in the Vietnam combat area in the 1960's; it doesn't look at all like the one you show. (unlined hole, as well as a couple of other early features.)
...and yes, I did polish the brass.

I know a Walker who was SF in the 1960's.

Haven't had contact with him for some time.

Did the seller provide any personal info about the "Walker" whose name is on this knife?

This knife does not look to be from the earliest days of Model 14 production, "might" have been purchased later by an actual member of the SF. But...that does not make it a theater-used knife from the 1960's.

P.S.: Recall that the U.S. did not pull out of Vietnam until 1975. I "could" pull the Gaddis book and try an figure out when the more current features appeared on the Model 14, but thinking that: (1) The knife offered for sale might have been bought by or given to a current or former SF at any time. (2) Without further info about the owner and when and how they "might" have gotten this knife, I would have passed on it!

Larry

If the engraving is correct he was in C/3/7th SFG based on the team number. Doesn't look like a VN knife to me but the 7th was in VN and in the post Vietnam Era their 3rd battalion was stationed on the Pacific side of Panama until we gave the canal back.

assuming the unused knife/sheath/stone are all original, it is apparent it wasn't in Viet Nam.

Stone didn't show up until post war

Logo stamp appears to be a later iteration of the inclusive "S".

Seller had no other info except what was engraved on the knife. Which could be his initials and 791 could mean July of 1991. Or 791 might be his mothers weight. At any rate the knife never saw Vietnam service.
