First off I admit I have not looked for this information, but maybe someone knows the answer.
Who did the embellishments on Tom Leschorn sheaths? Him, the sheath maker, out sourced or?
Thanks

Rod,

Mine is a Maurice Johnson hand-tooled the sheath and Tom Leschorn re-finished it black.

Thank you Tom. In your opinion, do you think this was the normal way Tom got and finished sheaths?
I am interested as his knives and sheaths are rare and the workmanship superb, but I know very little about his work.

A recent Leschorn at the show in FL was a Maurice Johnson Sheath and was left without the black refinish and was tanned at the Johnson shop. A pair of Leschorn Smitty's I had were Johnson tight-stitched Roughback sheaths. Another knife that I have is a Baby Dot Sheath. Most I have seen were unadorned stock sheaths.

Rod -

The thought is Maurice did the embellishment on the sheaths.

Johnson did not tan hides. He purchased his hides from Oak Leaf Leather, a tannery in St. Louis.
