Still learning about some of the models and how to date the knives.

Last weekend I got these 2 knives and I think what I have is 25-5 and a 16-7? fighting knife?

I think these are from the 80s, could be wrong, the previous owner Bill Johnson bought these and engraved his name on them. He couldn't remember when he bought them. I personally don't mind someone else's name on these knives but does it hurt its collectability and value?

That second one looks like the 16Diver.

It is a divers model not a #16-7", Special #1 Fighter.
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Oh yeah, I see the difference.
Thank you.

How old are the knives?

Hard to tell on the Diver's Model. From the '80's to the present, knife models alone without the sheath have subtle changes. I guess the Captain could nail down the year span on the nylon sheath.

The Model 25 is likely 1989 to sometime in 1995, when the snaps went from the plain snap to the current Randall stamped. I think it first appeared in the 1988 catalog, but the early production Model 25 had the "bald" stag or polished stag look. A clue to the early model years is the lone blue fiber spacer on either end of the stag insert.

Buck,
Check the black & white spacers, as sure sign it's earlier than 1995....Just sayin',
Capt. Chris
PS: The white Randall tag on the nylon sheath and as "trim" as it is leads also to late 80's...
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris

Way to call it Cap...

White stitched Trade Mark late 80's...

Earliest 25's were Blue and white, with polished stag...just before the switch to Black and ASP around 1990 we switched to black and white...also note the pre 90's 1/2 buttcap...

Late 80's for both...

Thank you for your replies.

Next on my list would be to find some older ones.

PS what are these knives worth on the low end?
I need to learn how to value these knives so I don't overpay in the future.
