I received my first about two weeks ago, it’s a 25-5 and it’s a wonderful piece. Many thanks to this forum for helping me make my purchase.
Now I’m working on Randall purchase number two, I’m set on a model # 1 but going back and forth between the 7” and 8”. Getting some outside thoughts and first hand opinions from you experts here might help bump me off the fence. Thanks for any directions suggested.

This from the Randall catalog ...

"Many people order knives that are too large for their needs.
We feel that 7" is the limit in size and blade length for
sporting use and that an 8" blade length is the practical limit
for a fighting type weapon"

I have two #1s that are 7" and they have a great feel in the hand.
Of course they are not users.

I have three Model 1 Randall knives--all with 7-inch blades. Over 50 years ago I bought one with 8-inch blade. It was with me when I deployed to Vietnam; I gave it to a fellow officer when he left to go to "jungle fighter" school in the Philippines.

Thanks guys, I was leaning 7” for quite some but time but had a semi change of mind and got stuck on 8”. After some serious thought along with your posts I’m going 7”.
Mine won’t be much of a user either. I have enough knives to beat the heck out of in the woods. Mine will be more of a tribute piece to those who wore the uniform.
I’ll be getting as close to what most troops bought from RMK at the time. Leather, brass, 7” it seems was more popular. About the only concession I think is going stainless for mine.
258, thank you for your service during trying times, it is so much appreciated.

A Randall Model #1-7" has been featured on RMK's catalogs for decades. That outta' tell you something.
...On he other hand: I like the feel, form and function of the 6"..."&" I'm fixin' to list an 8", bone stock except with a matching brass butt, to my website. It feels perfectly balanced with the added weight on the brass butt end.
Good luck with your decision...or just get all "3"!
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris

Thanks Cap. All three? It is an addiction, I’m already going on number 2 and I’ve only had number 1 for less then 2 weeks. Gonna be another costly hobby.

Lol. He must be the little red devil sitting on shoulders saying, “Do it”, your wife won’t be mad”. We’re all too weak it seems.

I have more #1's than any other model. Why? It's #1. When I started collecting it seemed to be the thing to do. My #1 collection is made up of as many different micarta grips as I could find.
Maybe I have too many......not.
