Warren brought up a question in the "Ordering" header, asking if it was possible to order a "teardrop/single finger grip" handle. He also provided a photo of an example which he believed may have been ordered that way. This is/was not the case.
When it comes to SFG's...Welcome to the world of "custom knives". Below is a couple of quick pics showing 5 examples of SFG handles, all ordered with this same option and all a little different! Rather than continue this topic under "orders", I thought it best to start anew.
Hope this helps, Capt. Chris
PS: The #4-4 1/2", in Koa wood, is going up on my website...The others? Not-so-much...CCS

Great examples Capt. The larger Butt end like on Warrens is a lot like the one you have with no end cap.
The middle knife has a more slab sided look.
I think a lot has to do with the size of the handle material as well.
I feel that with the size requirements of CW being enforced more so now than in the past has caused some to see some of the older knives as a different look.
Also asking the shop to leave the handle as large as possible causes the look to be a little different as well.

Chief,
While there may be some validity to what you have mentioned, there are numerous...and I mean "quite" numerous examples of the fact that a good amount of differentiation stems from the craftsman himself. Examples. just in the 5 I just posted, i.e.:
* Fireman Special
* Model #16
"Both" require the most strict qualifications, as the "exacting" measurements of any and all RMK models. I have had handle material rejected..."many times" for variances, almost unrecognizable! (1/32" and so on) Check out the "teardrop" (if you will) appearance of the Fireman's butt, compared with the Divers. "&"...both were made in the same time frame. Welcome to the world of custom knives. It's that simple.
Best, Capt. Chris

Hey Cap,

Thanks for the new thread as think it will be a good one. Also I now see your point to my original question of teardrop handle and SFG. Yes many look quite different and I've only had 2 so not much to compare. Chief had a good point, I think the block size has some to do with the eventual shape and yes it's all in the hands of who's shaping that day.
Once again my only two; a 26 and a 11-4.

No longer mine but in the interest of the discussion.
I also feel that larger knives are less likely to be "teardrop" at the butt due to the size of the hilt.

They are also less likely to be over-accented with butt caps.
Best, Capt. Chris
