Sidney,

It IS the Model 11-3-1/4" Alaskan Skinner.

I was just "economizing" on my description on the post previous to yours. "Laziness rears its ugly head". wink

Regrets. whistle

In terms of gutting deer, I use my blade to cut through the sternum all the way to the neck. This is soft boney material. I like the 1/4 blade with thick bevel over the fine edged 3/16 blade for this task. If you don't open this cavity but rather reach up and clean out the lungs and wind pipe then I would have to agree that the 11-3 would do the job.

Concur with the Capt on the full size handle. Good to be able to get a solid grip on the knife as you go.

The other point that I think needs to be brought up is that the model 11 is lighter than the other full size models. If you walk for miles, this makes a difference. I still like my Model 5-5 though, but you have to find the best one for you. Just my .02. Bill

Thanks for the info. It seems that the pro's and con's are about equal. I'm guessing that it will handle my turkeys and most of the whitetail deer here, but anything larger I guess my 23 will take care of. Do you folks find that a wrist thong is really that helpful or does it get in the way? I have knives both way's I just wanting to find whatever one else experience with them is. 29r

I use the wrist thong every time I gut a deer or elk as in most cases one must at some time, drop the knife and pull on the innards. With the wrist thong I don't have to worry where I put my knife. Also when cleaning fish, especially trout, I drop my #8 with the wrist thong attached and run my thumb up the spine taking out the blood grove and finish washing the fish. On my #19 if I am hacking on a branch or cutting through bone, it's a safety issue to have the wrist thong attached. For me, the wrist thong is a very good addition to all of my Randall users.
