I have an order through Sullivans that will come up in a few months and I am trying to make some final decisions about what to order. I will be ordering a custom sheath for the knife, and I really want a waxed high ride sheath with a stone pocket.

My question is in regards to the model 28. I am wondering if a hone pocket sheath would be too bulky for the model 28. I know the model 28 comes with a no-hone sheath and I suspect it is for that very reason.

What are your thoughts? Would a hone pocket sheath be too much for the model 28?

My opinion, which may or may not be shared with others, is that a hone pocket on any sheath is bulky, especially so for the smaller knives. I am grateful that the standard sheath for the #28 has no hone pocket.

Besides what Ken and you have already noted it is also important to note that there ain't a whole lot of room on that front panel for a hone pocket. Greg can advise you best, but I'd be willing to bet that the diagonal keeper strap would have to be eliminated and a "handle" keeper installed. That would mean "no high-ride" as more leather (the belt loop) would have to be behind the knife handle to attach the handle keeper to...just a hunch. I would n't do it. It sounds a bit homely...to me anyway. Let us know and show us pics of the final outcome, one way or another.
Best, Capt. Chris

Of course...Greg can come with something for sharpening and carrying ...CCS

I would also like to see the #28 come with a pouch sheath along with the Diamond-Eze sharpener similar to this custom Gutcher sheath Greg made for me for my #5-5.

That is a great setup you have. I don't recall seeing that before.

Well, you know what it is like when you have your heart set on something. For me, I love the look of a Sullivan's sheath with the hone pocket. I also love the high ride style of sheath. I have been determined for some time now to have this setup on my next order.

So, I think I am back to my original plan. . .a model 5-5.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Let us know what Greg said. When I talked to them a couple of weeks ago they told me no more custom sheaths. I was looking for a pouch sheath for a 28 when they told me that.

Well, I'm assuming my order is still good. I made it over a year ago and have the invoice from Sullivan's.

Keith

I am speaking when it is not my turn. I talk to Greg fairly often. I think if you have an order in with him, when your time comes, that order will be filled. He is not taking any NEW orders.

You can always call him and get an answer, so you are sure. Hope that helps.

You are right Rod. I spoke with Greg today and it's all good.

Glad I got my order in when I did.
