I first ran across the Pal in 1964, when I saw one being used by a survey crew in Louisiana marking a property boundary. Way better than a machete and more handy than a hatchet. Unless you are cutting small trees over 3" diameter, the Pal works much better. I once used mine to cut a new trail through some terrible brush, vines and briars in Louisiana, an amazing tool. I prefer the one with the stacked leather handle and guard.
