I do wear snake gaiters but still am quite wary.

That S&W Model 351PD of yours,I consider that a total classic.

Ever contact S&W to see if they could fit a 22LR cylder to it als well.

I have a Charter 22 snubby that has both the 22lr and 22 mag cylinder.

What rig do you carry it in???

I had a custom holster done by my leather artist, Tom Angle from Jordan Valley, Oregon. It's pig skin lined and nicely tooled. I haven't contacted S&W regarding a 22lr cylinder, mainly because I have 3 other 22's including an older 22 Airweight titanium that I keep in my golf cart.

When I worked in west Texas, I wore Chippewa tall snake boots, still have them, size 12 if anyone wants them.

I wear size 12 but my right foot is deformed from sharko foot.

Even Whites boots could not make a boot for me.

Your posts are interesting...make me ask how the dogs do around the snakes?

A friend once told me his dad captured snakes, put them in a pen, worked the dogs to get them downwind where they would get the scent, then shock them.

Supposed to have them averse to snakes. Of course not all snakes would be upwind from a dog that was hunting,

Our golf course is very close to where we live and hunt. The #12 T box is a 2 minute drive from our house. Bears, mountain lions, wolves and coyotes hang out along with the elk and deer. Plus on #16 par 3, I had my grandson with me and 2 big Dobermans came running towards us. The lady homeowner came out and said not to be afraid, and I pull my 22 out and said we're not afraid, but if your dogs come one foot closer, I'll kill both of them. Fortunately, she was able to get her dogs back into their home. It's like they say, if you have it and don't need it, that's better than needing it and not having it. After all, I live in the wild west. Lol.

I have heard of some dogs being "snake trained" to avoid contact.

And now,they are talking about putting the prongs of the shock collars on the snake bite area to eliminate the venom.

I would rather spend the $$$ with the vet as I think that this is an iffy procedure.

Best action,of course is no bite.

And yes,around me,things do "occur"

My two dogs can smell moccasins across the yard. They avoid them at all costs. They refuse to go in high grass & weeds any more.

I can always tell if a moccasin has been somewhere on the trail by the way my dogs act.

When Ricky was about 6 months old, a moccasin struck at him but did not connect. He bristled up like I've never seen him do before. He has avoided them ever since.

When we killed that alligator last Summer, neither dog would come near it.

I believe that using the shock collar prongs to help snake bites stems from a few years back when somebody said that they used a stun gun on a snake bite and it "worked". I believe that it was later proven not to have worked. Not a good time to experiment with something that "might" work.
So glad to live where there's nothing like that here.

Copperheads have a distinctive smell, too.

Humans can pick that up under certain circumstances.
