Well now, a new one I have never seen before.
6,000 acres per hour due to the winds.
The aptly named East Troublesome Fire started up near Granby and Grand Lake overnight. Both towns required emergency evacuation in the middle of the night.
Forest Service closed forests, so no hunting, camping, or fire starting.

More news about the East Troublesome Fire.
From Wednesday to this morning (Friday) it has gone from 19,000 acres to 170,000 acres.
A retired fireman and his wife had a beautiful house just north of Grand Lake.
It is reported that they retreated to a concrete bunker under the house instead of evacuating.
The bunker protected them from the flames and the collapse of the house, but not from the 1300 degree temperature.

There is snow predicted by the end of the week-end, but the whole area is being evacuated to front range cities.
Rocky Mountain National Park is closed with the Cameron Peak Fire on one side and the East Troublesome Fire on the other.
Only 12 miles separate the two largest fires in Colorado history.

it is hard for me to grasp the damage that these fires can do. I have a grandson stationed in CO. and he says he is not in the way of the fire. I hope they get a good snow to help them out.

Snow will help.
The Cameron Peak Fire had a foot of snow about a week ago.
Slowed it down for a day, but the snow acted as insulation.
When the winds came back, the fire went back up into the tree tops and spread rapidly.
Drought and high winds, mixed with embers and flames.
Oh boy, hang on!

My great-grandfather came to Texas at age 18 in 1850.

He located his "Headright" along the Jefferson to Dallas "highway" shown in the pictures. Remnants of the old "highway" run the entire length of the Southern boundary of my property.

It is not easy to get to, but I finally bush hogged my way to it this past week. We are about a week or two away from the pretty Fall colors, but I'm ready to take some awesome pictures when they turn.

Look closely at the last picture and see the rocks in a circle around an old water well. Daddy told me that Papa told him that Pappy told him that the well was here in 1850 and that he camped there for several months before relocating about a mile or so further West.
