I have a Model 3 Hunter with 6" blade and a Model 21 Little Game. Both knives I have inherited from my dad. The Model 21 was given to me by my dad when I got out of the service, he had the bad habit of storing his knives in the sheath and I had a good deal of verdigris to clean from the brass and sheath, the blade has started to lightly pit, I cleaned it and keep a light coat of sword oil on it. I have thought about sending it back to Randall to recondition it. The Model 3 was inherited this year after my dad passed away, my mom had bought it for him directly from the Randall show room in the early 80's. I had a little work to do on it as well, I remember his carrying it when we went camping, but have no recollection of it ever being used. Any scuffs on the blade I am sure come from removing it from the sheath. I am currently looking into purchasing a Model 18 and looking for a Sasquatch. I am at an age now were I can truly appreciate the workmanship that goes into each knife. I plan on taking my father's knife camping and actually using it soon.

Cosair,

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear about your father. There is one thing I know about him. He had great taste in knives. Those are two classic models. Personally, I wouldn't send them to the shop for reconditioning. Right now, they have the original finish and any scratches or light pitting is a part of their history with your father. Thanks for posting. I enjoyed your story!

Good point about the history of the knives and any wear that they have. I appreciate any input. The Model 21 is outstanding and the handle is a perfect fit in my hand. Makes for quick work when skinning.

I agree with Tom, leave the pair original and just take care of them. Nice pair of knives.

Like your Dad, I am a #3 6 inch stag fan. I have one just like it (but younger), and it is one of my favorite field knives.

You will like the #18 when you get it. My #2 son packs one in the bush all year long.

Cheers,

Those are beautiful! I like stag-handled knives best. I ordered my first one from The Shop in 1970, and got it in 1973. Just joined today.

Oh Canada! (Great anthem)...The photo you posted is not of a "GTR" but, rather, a "Drop Point Hunter", aka a Griffin Drop Point.
Nice knife, Capt. Chris

Well, Chris, the Shop called it a GTR Special when I bought it. There were four of them in the showcase, each handled differently. One in stag, as I recall. On a subsequent visit, the guy behind the counter wondered how I was able to get one. He didn't think that they were for sale, only display.
