In light of Randall's decision to stop making ivory handled knives and the ever so confusing proposed, but not yet enacted, ban on sale of ivory, what is the consensus on what to do with knives you currently own. I own a couple and have been wondering myself what to do, although I like them and don't need to sell them. Just curious about other's opinions regarding value and liquidity.

Hold because the value will increase now that these are discontinued?

Sell now while you still can, just in case the ban does get enacted as proposed?

Hold because you like them and don't give a crap if you can ever sell?

Other relevant options/opinions?

1) Actually, it's the opposite. The knives will have no value, which is the intent of the proposed ban - to make ivory worthless.

2) Ivory knives are a tough sale right now because no one wants to be stuck with them.

3) Might be the only option.

4) None, other than replacing the handle material.

I'm keeping all my Ivory handled knives. I don't sell any knives I buy so I don't care about resale value. I like Ivory and if people want to get rid of theirs cheap I'll buy them. Screw the Government and their bans on Guns, Ivory and anything else they don't like.

I don't know a whole lot about ivory knives but I do know that the government's failed every time they've tried to make something worthless by passing a law on it. Laws of Congress don't trump laws of physics or economics.

If the prices do go to worthless, you guys let me know, I'll buy everything you've got for a few bucks smile

Then, according to the proposed ban, you'll be a criminal.

This deal reminds me of the effectiveness of Prohibition, restricting Gun Sales, restricting/banning certain drugs, stopping "3rd world" wars on innocents, etc.

Carry On.

I've been a criminal most of my life...
If, for some strange reason I happened upon "Steven", and he wanted to buy one of my ivory handled Randall's, and I wanted to sell it to him, then I guess would do just that.
:-)Rocky...the soon to be criminal

I haven't followed all of the nonsense as close as Larry has...BUT...(I know..I know)...I was certain that the "proposal" would be enacted and made "into efect". I was also "fairly" certain it would / could / should be impossible to enforce.
It seems as though I have been correct...so far! One big, nasty, growling paper tiger! My old man always told me that "90% of what you worry about doesn't happen". Well...I worried some about this. Guess we need to watch some old "Kung Fu" episodes..."Patience, Grasshopper".
Best, Capt. Chris
