Everyone,
Peter's knife has, what is now called, a "single finger grip" handle shape. This was the most common handle shape for the "Drop Point Hunter". Gary & I have both used these knives (before they were scarce) to gut, skin & clean whitetails. They do a remarkable job! GTR, like me, has moved on to the Model #26-4", "Pathfinder" since those mid 80's days.
Dave Griffin was the Randall shop supervisor (Scott's position) for quite some years back in this time period. Although Dave had fallen out of favor with many in the Randall shop, a good many folks still refer to this handle shape as a "Griffin" handle.
Call it what you like, the drop point hunter was a knife I would love to see the shop bring back! Thanks to all for an interesting topic.
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: This is just a wild-ass guess, but I would venture to say Peter's "DP" is handled in Ironwood!
So is that something an authorized dealer might conjure up as a "Dealer's Special" somewhere down the line? (provided the Dealer Special program has not been permanently axed?)
.....although I'd prefer to see it as a re0entry into their regular lineup, for continuing availability reasons.
