Welcome Randall Knife Society members and non-members. This is the new Randall collector's forum and we welcome your Randall talk. There are no rules yet and hopefully, if we act respectfully to each other, there will be none.

Best regards,

Rhett

Hi Rhett!

Congratulations on your RKS forums!

I like the look of the new site, although there is something vaguely familiar about it.
Best of luck!

Happy Birthday, Rob! BTW, your icon shows up here but your name doesn't show up on the birthday list on the main page. A glitch or a trick of the time zones?

Thanks Gary,

You would have to ask Rhett about all that sort of stuff

I would hazard a guess and say that there is a switch over each day that searches birthdays and adjusts the page

because we all registered well into the day the program switch missed it

Just a guess

All,

This is not a hard and fast rule. Just something I am asking you to do.

On the register form the “display name” is the one that will appear as the main name with your posts. It is OK to use your internet names there such as “moosehead”. But please take the time to enter your full name and RKS member number, if you are a member by following the instructions below. If not a member just enter your name. This name will act a signature to your posts.

Please, do this for me and you. Click on “My Home” at the top of the page and follow the links I list below to register your signature which will appear at the bottom of your posts. The main reason I do this here is, I think we will have less problems if a posters real name appears with his posts. Something about signing your real name, that makes a person think about what they say (I hope).

The links:

My Home
Personal Information (click on Edit at the right side)
Basic Profile
(fill out boxes that you wish as you scroll down to what I am asking for)
The Signature Box (please enter full name and RKS member number if you are a member)

Then click on Submit

Thank you,

Rhett

All,

Some members are having a problem logging in. I think the problem is in their email acceptance by our system.

BoBlade was able to get in by using the following approach. If you have already entered a login name, password and email and did not get an email reply, try the following.

At the log-in page, at the bottom you can request your password. Follow that and our system will send you a temporary password. Then you can get in and establish your password.

Best regards,

Rhett

Felix,

Right now there are no Moderators and I sincerely hope we will not need any. Eric Price is our computer Guru that we buy all our equipment through. We have known Eric since 1986 when he was a young kid working for Radio Shack. I had bought a Tandy, Commodore computer at a Houston yard sale and had no idea how to even turn a computer on. It did have a problem and I took it into the store where Eric worked. Well, he worked on it like I had purchased it there and was very helpful with his instruction. His customer support that day endeared him to Janie and myself and we have become good friends.

Eric left Radio Shack soon thereafter and started his own business in Vero Beach, Florida. The name, Technology Partners. Since then I have bought all our computers from him except one, early on. He is also the server for this site.

RTurbeville is a fellow RKS member (actually now a life member) from Virginia that just offered his services to the Randall Knife Socuiety by email on September 5th. I already had the programming in place after an attempted "Coup" in April this year and this site was installed in May by Eric Pric and Technology Partners.

Rick had the site ready for me to look at in two days and finished in four. All this for no charge, but as a gift to the Randall Knife Society. He will be getting a Randall when I go see him next week.

RTurbeville and I have never met, which makes this an even more amazing story. He joined the RKS in March of 2004. A very special person, RTurbeville.

Best regards,

Rhett

I know a couple of guys who own RMK's but are not members of the RKS. Is there a way I can sign them up (and pay 1st year dues) online? PayPal would be a plus too.

Thanks for the info on the two folks behind the scenes, Rhett. Forum personalization is always greatly appreciated. I see it was my bad...the User List page shows them as Administrators, not Moderators as I originally thought.

I'm a new guy here so please cut me some slack with this.
Our RKS members who have been around since the beginning probably know each other by your first names and nicknames.
Rhett ask us to post our "full names" so I did. Wish more of you would too. Makes for a friendlier atmosphere and helps promote new RKS members (two of which I just signed up). I promise I won't come around asking for a loan!
Thanks, Tom Welch

Rhett,
Just to add to add my $0.02, thanks for starting a forum for everyone who is hooked on Randall Made Knives. This type of forum can be very helpful for new fans who get bit by the Randall Bug.
I too was a little shocked when the owner of the other forum just took over as moderator, and dismissed all the knowledgable moderators.

thanks again-

First Timer here, just trying to help a friend.......
We need info on a Randall '12 6 ' "Bone handle" W/ case & sharpener. Trying to determine a starting price for possible EBay sale. If you can help me, Many thanks.
Apparently it's rather old and never used.

klkatl,
...It is not the starting price that is important it is the final bid price that is important. To get the highest bids you need really good photos and lots of them. You need a very accurate detailed description. Your description of bone handle and w/case and sharpener is inadequate and will create doubt in the bidder's minds and prevent them from bidding. You need to cover all the details about shipping and insurance and payment in the ebay listing. You need the listing to be by someone who has lots of positive feedback including at least some for selling items that are worth at least $100 and an overall feedback rating of 99% or higher. All of these things will give the potential bidders that warm fuzzy feeling that makes them not hesitate to bid what the knife is worth. If you could post some good detailed PICs of the knife in this forum (please start a new thread to do so) we can probably give you loads of information to help describe the knife in the Ebay listing. If you cannot post photos here you can email them to me and I will post them for you. And,...IMO you cannot go wrong with a starting price of $199.

Jeff,
Thanks MUCH for the info. I am working on the pics. I may call on you again once I have them. Hope you won't mind?
I never dreampt there would be SO many differant 'Randall knives".!!!!!!!!!!
Another question, if you don't mind.???
Does the age of the knife add anything to the value, as far as a resale is concerned?
He tells me it's 'old'. Passed on to his Dad from his Grandfather, but there are no markings on it that we can find that would establish age.?
We realy appreciate you're expertise and knowledge!!
For what it's worth, you are helping MY Best Friend (who's dying of cancer), possibly scrape a few bucks together to pay for his much needed meds.
And though I know this is not the right forum.......
Given the world that we live in today, I want you to know that you have "helped" .
Thank you!
Kim

Kim,
...All of us on this forum are glad to help. We actually enjoy getting PICs of old Randall knives and discussing when they were made. Many of the older knives are very valuable. You are right that there are many different models of these knives. There are actually even two different Models that are 6 inch Model 12s. One of them is the 12-6 Little Bear Bowie and the other is the 12-6 Sportsmans Bowie. There are many cues including the shape of the blade and hilt and even the thickness of the spacers in the handle that can help to date a Randall knife. The sheath and how it is sewn and also the button snaps and even the color and markings on the sharpening stone are also cues for dating these knives. I am usually pretty happy if I can date an old Randall knife within 5 years. Some of the people posting on this forum can date them within a window of just one or two years.

Rhett,

Don't know why, but I was finally able to sign on today!

Have been reading the posts about every day. Still am on the other forum, (Where you can Build Randalls!) I won the 1st contest, and am really enjoying the Hunter! Thanks to all who help "Build" it on the other forum.

Sure am glad that I'm back with my friends here!

Guido,
It's just some one who needs to be banned. The same ad came up 3 days ago with a different user name. I'm working on it. I cannot actually "ban". I can delete the entire thread, but that's it...
Best, Capt. Chris
