I don't think the first one is a Styers, but a Doler. Totally different blade grind. Plus the hilt is not shaped and refined like on the Styers. The Styers name is more well known and anything with an "S" guard seems to be called a Styers. IIRC the Doler had a 6" or 6 1/2" blade.

Gil E. is the owner of the one in the photo from Mitchell.

That may be the explanation as to why the 1st knife does not have the pronounced hump in the tang, as the Styer's knives have that are shown in the book.
Thank you !!!!

Joe called me and I agree. I am not as familiar with these obscure (sorta') Randall models as Joe, but I noticed the difference also. Gil Eckler did not set up his display the past 2 years. Anyone been in touch with Gil?
Thanks, Capt. Chris

There is a Styer in the museum. Mr. Eckler's knife resembles it more closely.
I like the "obscure" knives, they are cool !! cool

Thanks Capt. and everyone else for the information. Each day that I can learn something new is a day well spent. The fun part is that for each new "rule" that I learn about RMKs, there are exceptions to the rule, and variations on the rule and knives that flat out contradict the rule. Always something new to see and read about here. I appreciate the time and effort everyone takes to share their knowledge and experience.

I'd venture a guess that the BearCamp Special was a similar build. Not quite a Dealer Special, but a "special" nevertheless, done with RMK's knowledge and "blessing".

Michael, I also like the obscure knives. Well, I like all of the RMKs, but the rare and unusual ones have a special appeal.

I don't know which is which, but the knife in Michael's pic looks like a 14 blade and the one above looks more like a 16 ST/NST version. The hilts are very different also.
