Comrades!

Just a quick question, does anyone own -and more importantly - use the Chef's knife?
If so please share your opinions with me!

It's a lot of money to part with, but a kitchen knife is something that would actually get put to use every day, and what better way to enjoy a fine tool then for its intended purpose day in and day out?

I'm thinking of pairing it up with a #10 5" with standard black micarta in the kitchen.

Opinions?
Suggestions?
Jay or nay?

Thanks!

The #10-5 is VERY useful in the kitchen, and less of a wallet slice at that. The chef knife though is Randall quality, I have several friends who use them for the holidays and special events. You would not be disappointed

I have no doubt the quality is there, but it lacks a point!

In my opinion a man needs no more than three knives in his kitchen, a chefs knife, a pairing knife and a bread saw.

Obviously I'm no real chef, just a knife guy who needs to eat once in a while, I'm sure the pro's needs a few more than that.

Thanks for the input RamKingJC

Well, I assumed in your kitchen things were already, ummmm, past the point of stabbing LOL, if that's the issue go with a Model #4 and call it a day ;-)

You're Welcome, I find it helpful when people can speak to how they use their knives in the real world as opposed to just "sporting ".

Yes, since my life is far less exiting then it used to be, the kitchen is where knives tend to get used the most.

For the pointy, sporty stuff I've got myself a #3, and I love damned thing.

Anyway, gonna get me a #10 ASAP and go the long way around with the Chef's knife!

Have a good one!

Comeraden!
A Randall made Chefs knife and a matching 10-5, (or two) should be an excellent choice. I have never been dissapointed in a Randall knife. You cannot pay too much for this kind of quality, and they will surely last you a lifetime.

Bon Appétit!

Kamrat!

That's my thinking.
A good quality tool is a pleasure to use, all the better if you use it a lot!

Gustaf,

The guys are spot on about the 10-5, it's a great kitchen knife. I don't have a Chef's knife, but will get one in the future.

Randall needs to put their bread knife back in the line-up, my wife really likes hers.

A bread knife would make a lot of sense, I didn't know they used to offer one.
If they still did, I would have all bases covered in the kitchen arena!

I have one and use it all of the time. I feel it is a better chopper than a slicer as it is fairly thick at the spine.
I find it useful in my kitchen, and I also have the Randall carving set and several model 10's
