Semi automatics rifles, semi automatics shotguns and pump action shotguns were confiscated in 1996; pistols larger than .38 were confiscated in 2002. The license for any firearm (or any other thing) can be cancelled at any time. We don't get to vote on it.

Lockback folding knives are to be banned from import at the end of July this year. They will then become permitted for military police and government purchase only. We will then be told to hand the existing ones to police stations before a certain date, after which possession will be illegal.

I guess it is easier to protect your personal liberties when they are guaranteed by your constitution. That is unique to the United States.

Australia’s constitution only guarantees you one right, the right to elect a government. There are no personal liberties; we have to have a licence to climb a ladder with more than 2 steps, a licence to be alone in a room with children that are not you own, a licence to do voluntary work for a charity, the list is endless. Some licences like car, boat, bike and chainsaw require you to sit a test, others you just hand over the money.

I have 3 wallets to carry all my licences. I even have a licence to collect knives, a licence to carry knives, a licence to display knives and a licence to sell knives.

Presumably your government has these restrictions in place for a (perceived) reason. My question is can it be demonstrated that the crime rate has radically declined since the implementation of the laws or do they simply just want the money?

Don't you need a license to look at knives too?? Is it the same situation in New Zealand?

We wouldn't know our police commissioner just resigned (with a huge payout) because it was discovered that he released false crime statistics.

Most Australian politician do very little, yet they receive enormous pensions after just 8 years in office and they get tax payer funded holidays for the rest of their life. They have to be seen to be doing something for all these perks, but the country is run by multinational mining companies, there is no money for actual policing, so their answer to everything is, introduce a license. Someone falls of a ladder introduce a license, someone drowns in a backyard swimming pool introduce a license. There were 3 people killed in Melbourne last month with hammers, the coroner actually recommended to the government that there be tighter restrictions on hammers, if that was his recommendation the politicians are required to act on it. All we can do is wait 4 years and vote for the alternative government that has all the same policies.

It's crazy

NZ has the same political system, but it is much more rural based, and more practical. They don't have the mineral resoarces that Australia has so their political system is still controlled by the people rather than multinational companies. The idea of banning guns knives and tools in NZ would be just laughed at.

Folks,
While this all very interesting, this thread is about building a Randall knife. Can we please get back on topic.
Thanks, Capt. Chris

Sorry Capt.
You are correct, it is slightly of topic.

The point is double edged knives are illegal in some jurisdictions; the majority of those are overseas. But the RKS does have members in those places both domestic and foreign. I have pulled out of the final stage of many of your builds because the majority chose a knife that would cause import problems in my country, and I have no problem with that. However it is a point worth considering.

I had no specific Randall knife in mind for this build. I astually like a "Small Gambler", as to size and weight, etc. It could be had with the top edge honed dull a bit, to be sure. Probably the best thing to do is "make a list"....I'll start.
Possible contenders:

A) "Pathfinder"
B) Small "Camp-N-Trail"
C) 4 1/2" "Fisherman/Hunter"
D) "Trout-N-Bird" (Either style)
E) Small Model #4-4 1/2"
F) "GTR"
G) "Denmark"
H) "Little Game Skinner"
I) Small "Alaskan Skinner" (3 1/2" or 4")
J) "Outdoorsman"
K) "Gamemaster"
L) "Woodsman"
M)"Fireman"
N) "Cattleman"
0) Small "Stanaback Special"

OK: That's enough for starters. The "Fireman" and "Stanaback Special" are both 1/4" stock and won't be as light as the others listed here. Everything can be made politically correct...or just plain "knife correct" and left alone.
Let's here your opnions, Crew. We don't have to leave out a "Guardian" or a small "Stiletto" either. They just won't be legal in some places.
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: There is no doubt I have left something out...My apologies, in advance...CCS
PPS: Small Gambler in elephant ivory...just to think about...CCS
