!!!!WARNING!!!!
!THREAD HIJACKING EMINENT!

Has anyone ever seen a 25-6 set up as a fighter? As in:

Brass double guard, green or black micarta center piece, brass or aluminum butt cap.

Tom,
A double hilt is unavailable on a Model #25. I've seen it on a #11-5" before and..."in my opionion"...it should be unavailable on that model as well...Butt ugly!! Whew!! "BUT" (There's that word again)...That's just my opinion. I have seen quite a few #25's and #26's with various micarta centers. Now that I like!!
Best, Capt. Chris

This has been bothering me too. I voted for the #25 only because it's a good-looking drop point. But now I'm thinking that we should put more thought into a knife that's meant to honor such a great knife man.

If a Loveless inspired Randall means one that looks like it was designed by Loveless, i.e. in his style, then it should be something like Gamble described: #26 with micarta - and maybe even a slab-sided handle to make it look more like a Loveless full tang handle. But even if the slab handle was available as an option, and I don't think it is, the knife still might not work, aesthetically speaking. So maybe a Loveless inspired Randall isn't really possible.

Perhaps we are approaching this project from the wrong direction. After all, it was Randall that inspired Loveless, not the other way around. So maybe we should be thinking in terms of a Loveless tribute knife instead of a Loveless-style knife.

From the "A Legend Passes" thread:

Do we know which Randall model Loveless wanted? Perhaps we could use that model as the basis for a tribute knife. If it was a drop point then it must have been a #11.

Friends, I'm just floating some ideas here. If we decide on using a #25 then I'm still on board. No matter which model we choose, I think building a Randall in honor of Bob Loveless is a great idea and the right thing to do.

Rick

The closest to the Loveless blade (from Randall) would have been a Griffin "Drop Point Hunter". That is, the closest to what Bob was known for. Who knows what he saw and fell in love with at A&F? Who knows what he first made. I am fairly sure of the model that made him famous...and Wayne Clay...and Ron Gaston, etc., etc.
Point is: No, this knife will not be exactly like Bob Loveless' world-famous design. It will be a nice drop point and will be a utilitarian user. Whichever or whatever we decide on: I think it will be great!!
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: I think this is probably the best and most open exchange of ideas we have had on and for a build here on the RKS forum in quite a long time...lovin' it...CCS
PPS: We can probably do a "slab-side", but not on a #25 styled handle...

I am still liking the #11 4 1/2 inch with Lunde's sterling silver idea and with the Captain's slab side (stag) idea. Now that would shape up to be a great set-up.

nice thread!

here is my revised vote:

26
shortened fine silver hilt (square-top, but only if we can also do slab sides)
all red spacers
green micarta or LV
slab side BPH
fine/sterling silver name plate (i know, not possible)
no thong thole

special forging: NO CHOIL!

I realize that last one is probably not possible either, but RMK would have no trouble selling out of a numbered run of 100 of "Loveless Commemorative Drop Points" like I've described...

BL's passing might just be important enough in the knife world to justify that kind of special project. I know that he was not the most like-able person, though I'm not sure if he had any relationship good or bad with the Randall family in the laters years which may influence the decision one way or other. I'm just thinking it would make a really nice knife.

I agree Gamble. Nice thread indeed!
And NOW, ya got me thinking!!!
If we could do a "reduced" hilt ... that #26 you describe would be very unique
and "Loveless-esque."
You could have swayed be over to the #26!!

Capt.
this's what I found to show similar blades to help your nice Hunter Drop Point building.
Off course old Randall Drop Point Hunter is the nearest to Bob's drop point must:
Just my 2c
