I believe Remington Rand was actually a typewriter company. Comments? Of all of the WW II 1911 makers, which one is the most rare? I know that those marked US Navy are not very common.

Pap, I don't know if they are the "most rare", but you don't see many Union Switch & Signal pistols.

U.S.&S. is scarce...but "Singer" is Rare, especially today! I used to have a "Colt" pocket book that listed the exact production numbers...Not anymore. I think I am correct on Singer having the least numbers of all. Ithaca made a good many as did Remington Rand.
Best, Capt. Chris

Mike,

There are all kinds of links referencing the Remington Rand 1911 on the internet. Here was one at the top of the search:

http://www.model1911a1.com/Remington.htm

They may have very well done typewriters also, but I wasn't thinking about that when I posed the question to the Cap.

ps: Thank-You Capt. for the response to the question.

Michael-

Thanks for the information. I do not own a 1911 at this time but they have always been of interest to me.

Here's my US&S, for info purposes... 55,000 were made in 1943 only. Sometimes referred to as the "Poor Mans Singer". Singer made 500 1911A1s in 1942, most of which are said to have went to the Air Corp. Genuine Singers are exponentially outnumbered by fakes, and out of the reach of 99.9 % of collectors. (Myself included cry)

Ken,

That Ed Brown is a damn fine looking gun....wow. I have had my eye on a couple of Kimbers, but now I have to deal with the vintage bug after seeing these older beauties....and NOW an Ed Brown.

Too many habits, so little money.....
