The Idaho Fish and Game Department used H&K .45's for a long time. Don't know if they still do or not but most warden's that I talked to liked it.

Capt., I think you're missing my point. Entering the world of owning a 1911 seems to be like eating peanuts - once you start, you can't have just one!

My point is, I can't afford to start. I can't afford another obsession.

You know, if you're going to buy only one 1911, you'd be hard-pressed to find a finer example than an Ed Brown offering. I own five of their 1911s, and my favorite among them is the Special Forces Carry.

Captain, I own a Les Baer - Thunder Ranch. Any experience with Les's work? Have never fired it.

Ooh
Nice 1911 Ken
There are a lot of companies making 1911 style pistols from stock to custom carry and competition guns.
There is a reason why Smith and Wesson, Sig, Taurus and now Remington make 1911s. People like them and are buying them. There are a lot of custom makers too, Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Les Baer to name a few. I have a Kimber, and two Colts myself

I have no problem with "anything" with Les Baer on it! One of the best 1911's...One of the best AR's...Good product all the way around! Ken's examples, Peter's listings, except for the Remington (Just introduced...so no track record yet), and a handful of others all are proven performers. Everyone has their "pet product" but it's still hard to argue with a "COLT"!

Wasn't Remington into the 1911 market under the name of Remington Rand, way back??

Mike:
Remington Rand, along with companies like Singer Sewing Machine, tooled up to produce weapons during the World Wars. The Reming Rand company later went on to create "Univac" and other business machines. Although the "Remington" name is associated with Remington Arms through family ties, it is/was a totally seperate company. This new offering from Remington Arms has no track record. I'm sure it's a fine pistol but wouldn't buy one until it's been out, shot for some time and proven itself.
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: I don't think "Singer" is getting back in the game...CCS
