Since the 100 year anniversary of the 1911 is next year, I thought I would post a few pictures to get people in the spirit for the big celebration.
My Kimber with the new ironwood grips, and then my Kimber, Gold Cup and new ironwood Combat Companion

Good stuff Peter! It will be interesting to see what 1911's are introduced for the big year!

Here are my two...

Peter,
Are those the 1911 grips that Gene Beal made for you? He (Gene) just contracted to do some single-action and 1911 grips for Colt. Those ironwood grips look exceptional! NICE!!
Best, Capt. Chris

Hi Capt. Chris
That is the ironwood that I got at the Blade Show, and that Gene Beal crafted some exceptionally nice grips. I am very happy with the way they turned out, he is quite a craftsman.

Can you tell I like ironwood

I'm surprised on the turn-around time. That's fast!...and, yes: I figured you liked ironwood.

Hey guys, what's up with this thread?? Not a single picture of a Colt 1911???? Nice guns to be sure, but not a 1911 in the bunch.

Here's mine-born in October of 1918:

Shipped to the Brooklyn Navy Yard in October 1918 with a shipment of 20,000 other 1911s

Restored by Doug Turnbull, Turnbull restorations.

And...since this IS the Randall Forum here's my 1911 A-1 clone:

OK Doug smile

You made me go down into the bunker to pull out some Colt made pistols.
The stainless steel is a series 80 Gold Cup National Match and the blue is a non-original, non restored 1918 US Army 1911. The 1918 came with the extra slide and barrel of the same vintage.
Also seen is the 5 inch large Gambler, which I think might be a nice option for this build.

Peter

Pete-

Very nice 1911 do you know what the #14 under the serial number is about? Other than the barrell bushing, grips, grip safety and mainspring housing what other parts are wrong?

Are you sure about the date of the manufacture? I have to look it up but I think that the rampant colt logo at the rear of the slide was earlier than 1918.

In any event, that is a real nice example. I hope that you shoot it from time to time.

Regards,

Hi Doug
I don't know for sure what other parts are wrong and I don't know about the #14 either. I can't say that the slide is original to the frame either. I had looked up the serial number and the list I used said it was made in 1918. I am not an expert on the old Colt's, but it was a good deal when I bought it, especially since there was the extra slide and barrel with it.
I need to take it out some time this summer.

This thread is terrific and I encourage more folks to respond, post and take/share a few snapshots of any pistol or 1911 related "stuff".
I have deleted several posts which have been copied & pasted into the 1911/Randall knife "build" thread. Peter and I got carried away and started posting "build-related" posts over here. My apologies to all. Keep it up. I'll dig into my safe and photgraph my 45 a bit later. Thanks.
Best, Capt. Chris
