Looks like a snakebird (anhinga) with just it's head and neck out of the water.

Great pics once again!

Peter

Great pictures thank you. It appears that fire had been through the area, or is it just no foliage on any of the trees?

I went flying the other day in a private plane. First time up in Ireland. I will try and get some pics posted tomorrow.

Thanks guys

Rod
no fire in this area, it is just that almost all the leaves are off the trees this time of year. It looks different each season. Looking forward to seeing your photos

It was a nice day today, so I thought I would try to take the dogs out for a short out and back hike now that it is cooler.
We saw two doe and two buck, one was pretty nice. Saw this buck rub in the photo too. It was good to get the dogs out in the woods, but I must have picked 30 ticks off them when we got home. Included the traditional Woodsman(model 28) in the woods photo too

Peter

Thanks as always Peter. What a rub! Unusual for a couple of reasons. One: It is so "singular" in place. Nothing wrapped around the tree at all. Almost has the appearance of a monster whitetail with half his rack
A) Broke off
B) Genetically missing
C) Lost fighting
D) Fill in your own blank...
Also: Unusual that an old rub is located above it on the same tree. Older bucks, returning to the same route would indicate (usually) by a rub higher or in the approximate same spot. Odd!
Another explanation of this rub could be a huge "spike"...Whatever: Thank God I'm leavin' Tuesday for the Bama woods. My neck is even swellin'!
Thanks, Capt. Chris

The "boys" look happy being out in the woods once more. Cool pics.
