What about Australian Ringed Gidgee also known as Desert Gidgee (Acacia cambagei) it grows on Australia's inland desert areas. It is a deep rich brown to chocolate brown color, "Ringed" - Fiddleback like fine figure & texture.
It is very hard and heavy, cuts, drills, finishes and handles well. Gidgee is best with surface finishes as oils darken it too much. It is a favourite with Australian knife makers
I haven't got a picture, but if you Google it, you'll find plenty.
If this is chosen and a build goes ahead I would be happy to hand pick a piece and send it to the Captain.
