Me too Peter!
Especially now that a slight running injury to my foot has got me limping around a little.
If I can't hit the trail by next week ... well ... there's always kayaking!!!!!! grin

Thanks Capt. Chris and Tony
I had wanted to go biking today, but we had rain, and the dog hair tumbleweeds need to be controlled.
I have my southern Utah hiking trip coming up in September, and I will be taking a ton of pictures as I visit Bryce, Zion, Capital Reef, Arches and Canyonlands smile

Saturday, we took a 90 minute drive to Slate Run to hike on a part of the Black Forest Trail
http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/hiking/black.aspx
We did about 9 miles and the weather was very nice and a bit cooler. The hike parallels streams in some areas and then gets to the top of the ridge for some great views.
You can see the model 28 on my right pack shoulder strap.
And of course the boys love the streams.
Peter

That's alot greener than Moab!! Did you ever decide which Randall you are taking on your trip? Are you going to just pack it in your checked luggage or what?

Hi Tony and Pap
It was a great day to be out.
One of the things I like about hiking in the southwest is that it is so different from the east.
I will be taking my model 28 Woodsman in my checked luggage. I will also have a Spyderco folder and a multitool and I am still debating a handgun, since you can now carry legally in national parks.

Peter-n-the-"boys" excellent adventure. Another one. Nice work. Keep it up and think hard about the handgun on your trip out west. I'd sure want one...just in case.
Best, Capt. Chris

If you don't have one, I'd suggest a Bond Arms derringer with the .45/410 barrel and pack a few .410 shot shells and 000 buck shot. The shot shells for snakes and the buckshot for anything else. That's mostly what I pack anymore. Easy to conceal and Bond has many different caliber/barrel choices. Your #28 should be a great choice and a Leatherman is always in order.

There's never a good reason not to carry a firearm if you can.
One of my favorites for summer is my Ruger SP 101 .357. Two rounds of snakeshot and 3 of .357 feel pretty good .

I just deposited my 18 year old daughter at her freshman dorm and gave months of thought (and years of instruction) into her personal safety---both in her car and on her person. In VA we have a "shell issue" concealed carry law, but many other items went along with her. I wanted to start a thread asking other's opinions as to what you would send in a similar situation, but I'm not sure how to open a new thread topic. If anyone else has any interest please feel free to do so.

Hey fellow outdoors-men
Today's hike was rated 4 bones by the dogs.
It was unseasonably cool with high in the 60's, there were squirrels out and we saw a flock of turkeys. It was breezy so bugs were minimal and there were multiple stream crossings to wade and drink in. We also saw many different kinds of mushrooms and a big black snake. We also ran across some wild apple trees.
More pictures in next message
Peter
