We went on Sunday with about 2-3 inches of snow. It was ok to hike but not enough to ski The one trail follows the power line where you can see my town below from the ridge top Peter

I think you're going to get some real soon. Here in Utah where we are currently working, we have 10 inches and still snowing. The mountains are predicted to get upwards of 4 feet from this storm.

I took the boys xcountry skiing in the game lands both Sunday and Monday since I don't have to go back to work until January 4th. Sunday was sunny, but Monday was cloudy. It isn't often that we have good snow for skiing so you have to get out while you can. A lot of the hiking trails we go on are too rocky and or steep for skiing and once there is some snow, it is difficult to drive to some of the trail heads too. I have to see if I can get the dogs to pull me up hills on my skis. In another post in the near future, you will see the new knives they got me for taking them in the woods so often.

Very nice as usual, Peter. I always liked to do a fire in similar situations and take my cold sandwich and toast it before devouring it. I also always took a "treat" for my doggy so they wouldn't be left out. Nice pics.

Since the snow was getting thin for skiing, the dogs and I went out hiking on Thursday, since we will be getting freezing rain and rain on Friday. On the ridge top, the only tracks before we went through were deer and coyote, but we didn't see either. It was a sunny day and a beautiful day to be out in the woods. When I got home, there was a package with a Randall #28 Woodsman waiting for me:) I plan to take some knife pictures today and post. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
