I was out of the Army before 9/11, but as an ex-infantryman I never saw much point in worrying about the shine off a Randall blade. I understand light discipline, but soldiers don't routinely go traipsing through the nighttime woods with their knives in their hands. Sheaths do a good job at subduing finishes.

And on the .0001% chance most soldiers ever need to use a knife against another guy, a shiny blade would be the last thing they'd worry about. Lack of knife-fight training would be first.

Rocky,
Just my own opinion, but the young men (6) who were deploying that I personally supplied with Randalls (1)straight from the shop & IMHO the 1st place to ask;(2) a gun show & (3) 2of my own long time friends;.......were all so pleased, surprised, shocked that the only reply I really remember was "that's the most badassest' knife I've ever seen!". (A#16, by the way....it was what the shop had NOW) And every dang one saluted!!
You can't go wrong checking with Scotty as to "what have ya' got?"

Although I have only done the pickle juice, I would think that a cold blue treatment would work quite well. Has anyone tried this?

No but I've tried the hot blood treatment on carbon knives and it definitely dulls the finish.

If you have a local gunsmith they should be able to bead blast and Cerakote the blade, if not we know of a couple of guys with the initials of J. B. that could help you out

well, this has gone off on a finish coat. I had not expected that. It was, on my part just a thought about a possible knife. I'm not into the clandestine activities, and all the Rambo stuff. Just a finish, that looked pretty durable.
Anyway Mitchell, I think, has a blade that suits the buyer.
Thanks for all the help guys!!!
