I'm new to this forum and really glad I found it! I ordered a Randall Dive knife after graduating from the Diver Second Class Training Department (DSTD) in Coronado, CA back in the early 1980's. It was well worth the wait and will go to one of my two sons when the time comes.
I would like to buy a Randall bowie and am looking for a Model 12-11. It does not have to be a fancy one with all the bells and whistles. I would use the knife like I do the Randall diver. I have seen them on EBay but would prefer to buy one from the folks on this website who seem to love them as much as I do. Thanks!!

That's a great present! I was a SWCC (boat guy) at SBU 12 and SBU 13 back in the 80's when the SPECWAR budgets were pretty lean. I do have a couple of K Bars though. We would get one as part of our deployment issue. I miss those days, especially the people. Anyway...I better stay away from the sea stories (aka true stories).
I am at a little of a loss for what to do about getting a big Randall. I like the Smithsonian, the Raymond Thorpe and the Confederate all for different reasons. I'm not entirely sure why I think I need to have any of them from a purely practical point of view. Over the years I have not really looked at any sheath knives because I had what I considered to be the best. My Randall Dive knife. What do you think about the big Randall bowies?
There's a railorad conference in Orlando I will be going to tomorrow for four days. I'm hoping to visit the Randall museum at some point if I can break away.
I live in Jacksonville, FL.

Welcome to the forums
I have two Raymond Thorps and a Smithsonian so far and I don't need any of them, but for a lot of us it is not need but desire.
Take a look at the knife of the week threads with the photos of the various bowies and you may find one or more that you like and any of the dealers can order one like that for you to receive in less time than ordering from the shop.
Good luck
Peter

Thanks! I'm leaning toward the Raymond Thorpe with commando shaped ironwood handle, lugged hand guard I think it's called and brass butt cap.

The Model 12-11 Smithsonian has been my favorite Randall since I first saw it. I now have the 3 shown and I'm thinking about a 4th. Practical, no but I love them and wouldn't hesitate to use them. One has been used to cut down some bamboo.
