When things get bloody, I like finger grips....alot. I also think the 6" is a good size. With saw teeth I wonder if a SS blade might be better; it would stay sharper longer. Thoughts?

Thanks for the reply Wally!

...how about a #1-6, carbon steel, sawteeth, nickel silver hilt, leather handle with #14 style finger grooves, wrist thong.

CC - When would you like me to announce my fundraiser?!

" Do you think the sawteeth option would better serve his needs...or not? Also: A lot of attention is being paid to the good 'ol #1...but what blade length works best for his purposes? Thanks, Capt. Chris"

As much as I hate to admit, a 6" blade will probably be best. Gawd, the 8s are beauties, but the prospect of climbing in and out of vehicles, deciding whether to belt it to your hip or lash it to your IBA, etc... Fact is, a knife gets used in combat for a hell of a lot of things, other than combat. I myself was comfortable carrying a 1-7, I am 5' 10" and weigh in around 180. Sarge is a inch or two shorter than me. It seems like they carry much more gear now, than we did 9 years ago. So, as much as I hate admit it, loving big knives the way I do, a 6" may really be best. I honestly believe leather is the best handle choice, and a thonghole is a must. At This point I think I will step out of the build, I don't want to influence the "build" too much, and I know the RKCC can't go wrong building a knife for an old soldier. I really, really appreciate everyone's contribution to these projects, whatever your participation is. I'm really looking forward to the presentation of this blade!

To "ALL" RKCC members...I would ask that you read through the previous posts and make your decision based upon what you think would be "best" for an overall Randall knife for SSGT. Sinclair. I think we should choose from the following. This is not a roll call vote...not yet, but it's comin'. Let me hear what you think. Thanks to Jimmy and Wally for their "in the field" advice.
Best. Capt. Chris

A) A Randall Model #1 (6,7 or 8 inch)

B) A Sergeants Model (5 inch heavy blade)

C) A Model #15-5 1/2", Airman (CDT or standard)

I think we can come up with winner from anything on this list.

Captain...
Though not my first choice...I'm now voting for a Model #1-6" APFK.

If the Model 15 CDT is chosen, consider the following that was ordered through me by a Navy SEAL embedded with the 3rd SFG in Afghanistan, who called me from his AO with this knife order.

Model 15-Cut Down Tang, with stainless steel blade, black Micarta handle, finger grooves, aluminum & black spacers, nickel-silver hilt-single.

The aluminum & black spacers could be sacrificed for a wrist thong hole.
