Thanks for showing the sheath....i prefer leather as well....and have a SpecOps gathering dust....also don't care for plastic liners getting grit stuck in interiors and eventually sanding off even the toughest modern finishes....that really is a great knife, and priceless...nice drain hole....i add those as well...

Excellent addition to the sheath of a user. I just added drain holes to my two knives with leather sheaths, Model 18 and Bill Maynard/Dan Pitzer SERE knife.

Thanks Jimmy and Lance.

I love the drain provisions in the Sullivan sheaths, just check them for clogging and unclog with a paperclip or something if you get nasty.....i often wore my knives inverted on suspender strap as much to let sheaths drain as any other reason, once had an extended stay in a river delta area where we were in waist deep water or deeper where we had to sleep/nap standing up and would hook suspender strap to a cut off branch to hold us up...a SHARP 1/4" hollow punch, or drill bit (pilot drill with smaller bit for starters) can do a neat job if you make sure sheath doesn't move and you have a firm wood surface backing the sheath you can punch or drill into, and normally the far side will be neatest so keep that in mind on which side pretty means the most....i really like that #1 of Jimmy's, worth more than any 10 new ones in a safe....and Burnie's....

Lance, agreed on all counts, to include comment on Jimmy's number #1.

Knives I carried in SW Asia never required drain holes. Even if you rinsed debris out the kydex liners, it would dry fast but you could never get it all anyway. I still have moon dust imbedded in the cord wrap of my main blade from back in 2007.

Back here it makes sense and is a worthwhile modification.

yeah, i would never presume on anybody to tell them MY must have mod might be theirs as well....i can see readers from Arizona reading this and saying "whah?", likewise talk of O-1 rusting, or even how critical immediate clean-up of a black powder firearm is....all depends on where you are as to how things hold up and what you need to take care of stuff....around these parts, just now it is 92degs, 100% humidity, raining buckets and lightning is competing for room with the steam in the air...

I was not smart enough back then to think of drain holes. The hole was put there for my 550 cord leg strap. I wear my knife through my rigger belt not my kit. Back in the 80's I used a 2 quart canteen strap around my waist with 550 cord leg strap. I figuered if you need to get light and shed everything at least I would still have my knife till the end.

yep, definitely don't want it tied to gear where you might be hitting the quick release tabs at any moment....

amen, and the knife is always first line....i expect it's one of the few things everyone would agree is in that batch....it's the rest of it that everyone else wants to argue about and i'm not even gonna go there...
