To follow up on the Capt's thread. This is always been of interest to me....Randall handle material. I have what I think are a lot of blanks for Randall knives that will probably go unfulfilled, however I'm always looking at stuff, and figuring if it will fit on a Randall, and IF the shop will do it....just yesterday, after seeing a set of colt grips made out of Fordite....I got to looking, and think'n.....(could/would the shop put a set on a model 10)....anyway stuff like that...here is some of the fordite I found on just the "BAY" didn't put the time into looking else where....also found a source for some teak decking off the New Jersey, thought about getting it, then cutting it into proper size, then figured I'd probably have to get it "stabilized"...any way...those are some of my thoughts....I'll post more photo's of blanks in a bit...if any want to show off theirs, put um up!!
OH...here's a piece of musk ox that I shot a photo of the other day...

Rocco (Brian Nawrocki, works under Jim Behring in Michigan) brought a few Fordite-handled knives that he made under his own banner to the 2022 Blade Show.

Here's a pic he posted right after Blade Show:

Rumor has it that while Fordite can be some good-looking stuff, in the end it's still (baked) layers of paint and not terribly durable.

Follow up....here is the remaining group of my "antique gold" handle material...I bought a bunch form a guy who was selling on the "Bay" years back....I paid way too much for them, however, after getting beat out of the first 2, I wasn't going to let that happen again, so...I made contact...shot off my mouth..."I'll take all you got"...yeah, well not being one to go back on my word, I did buy all he had.. .unfortunately, it was a butt load, and it was VERY expensive!! anyway, just one story...there are more...
maybe be nice to see some of the knives that YOU/dealer have had the shop do for YOU...talking just about ones that have come from the shop just for you, not bought second hand...

I bought a Fordite from Rocco...and somebody "forced" me to sell it. For those who aren't familiar with Fordite...it's "scrappings" off the Ford (Detroit) paint booth floor!
* Expensive and killer-looking when completed. Brian told me, at some point, he just has to quit trying to make it perfect...It's impossible.
Stay Sharp, Capt. Chris

Here's some handle material I treasure like a pirate!

It's Rag Micarta I bought from W.D. Pease in 1984 or so, and it came in the form of a 15" x 15" tile, 2" thick. Seems these came out of a burned out dancehall in Philadelphia or someplace. These are the only pieces I have left, enough for five knives. I have searched far and wide for more, but no luck.

Man, I would like to have Randall put that on a Nr. 15 Airman! Maybe I'll ask them.

I have never had issues posting photos here. I've tried posting this one four times and only get a link. The size is less than the max allowed but here it is again but you have to click.

Yes, I still have some micarta but my ordering days are slowing down. I still have one or two and will get with Cap when I figure out what they are.

Woo, yeah, the image is 2508x2593 pixels, that's overly large for display-in-post.

Any luck getting the shop to use that slotted white material?

I think that if the Fordite was coated or after shaping with epoxy would help a lot. Or I wonder if it could be put in a pressure pot to fill all the voids.

Good point.

The same process used to stabilize wood....

Has it been done?
