Hi, a few number 5's. The bottom one looks like a polished stag. I've never seen a handle like this. Does anyone have any insight, regards, Mike

I had a Model 25-5" with polished stag. I traded it away. BUT, I may be able to find a picture of it sometime next week.

The person that owns it is away for a few days.

Hi Rod, so it's polished stag. I was guessing as I have never seen one like it. I don't get out much, regards, Mike

Here's a Model 25-6" to help Rod out.

It was the first polished stag handled Randall I had.
When this model came out in 1988, the Shop offered them only in polished or "bald" stag on the insert. Within a year or so, the Shop got more calls for stag with the "bark" on than off, and the polished stag was discontinued.

Thanks Buck. I had a polished stag model 25, but traded it. I am hoping to have a photo of it posted soon.

I think it's still an option as a center piece for the mdl25 handle.

Here's a interesting stag-handled Model 5-6''.

The little bit of "popcorn" stag gives the impression of a "Border Patrol Handle". It has a nickel-silver butt plate.

Stag isn't my first choice for a handle, but that would really make me reconsider.

I got a bit of energy today and took out my model 5’s for a wipe down/cleaning. I have a ivory 5-5” that is wrapped in a mineral oiled cloth, so that knife missed the photo.
I have two kind of unique 5’s and a Sep S 5 to be picked up at Blade.
The photos are the same group of knives, different angle.

I have idea why the picture is turned from the way I chose it!!!

Far left side of the picture, blade pointing down. 2nd from the left.

Hard to believe but I did have some semblance of order, at least when I started!

A "few" number fives? That's more than all of my knives together, fixed and folding, Rod. Which one is the current favorite user?

I have a 5-4” with red and blue micarta and/or a older 5-5”, leather handle and sawteeth.
I waffle between the two. But in reality I carry a Jimmy Bedgood fixed blade most of the time, with inside the pocket sheath. Jimmy used to frequent this Forum and made a great fixed blade knife.

I remember him, here on the Forum and at the stock sales.

The following thread on the Forum indicates he was being deployed?

If so, was that the last any of us heard about him?

****
http://www.knifetalkforums.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=140321

I finally pinged Jimmy. He is TDY in an undisclosed location.

He will not be at Blade Show this year, but asked me to give you guys a shout.

Keep HaloRanger in your thoughts.

I recently acquired this Model 5-7” with provenance.

The sheath is a bit weak. If anyone has a Model 1 or 5-7” sheath they would like to sell, let me know. I don’t want/need a pristine sheath nor do I need a hone stone.

First, let's address the source for the introduction of saw teeth, and that is Gaddis, who covers the development of the model 18 in pretty good detail.

Saw teeth showed up fairly quickly on other models i.e. the 14, 15, and 16, probably '64 anyway. I will try a post a few photos of some early examples.

I couldn't say for certain when they showed up on model 1's and 5's, but I would say sometime in 1965 as a reasonable time frame. I need to look thru some notes and photos when time permits.

According to Bob Gaddis (Just re-read this) the 1st "3" Model #18's, with sawteeth were completed in late January, 1963. Gary had built the prototype a few days earlier...
Hope this helps,

Don't forget to post your Randalls on the "knife of the week". It keeps it current and gives newbies a way to see how Randalls can be built.

This is a 5-5 that I ordered from the shop with a double brass hilt few years back. I have since given it to my daughter:

This is a 5-4 stag that we bought for my dad a couple of years ago:
