Wanted a new fixed blade for heavier outdoor usage, hunting and camping and have been researching for a couple months. Finally found one that should suit all my needs for a long time. I pulled the trigger on a Benchmade 162-1 Bushcrafter. S30V steel, Desert Sand G10 scales and it’s quite beefy. Very good reviews nearly across the board. The only issue seems to be the sheaths, both the leather version on the green 162 and the kytex on the sand 162-1.
I can confirm the kydex is indeed crap. Unbelievable that the company would partner such a cheesy piece of junk with such a fine knife. As it turns out I test fit the 162-1 in the sheath I have for my Cold Steel Master Hunter and it fits, if a little snugly. It will do until I order a new one online. There are several company’s that make replacements for these and they do good business because the factory versions are what they are, crap.

I like those Benchmade blades. I'll have to take a look at these models.

Depending on my location like the south, I still like the Woodman's Pal for heavy duty work to save my knives for other uses. In the West, the Pal is still a good tool, but a Gransford Bruk Forest axe is my choice for HD work.

If you get a chance find one in a local shop and get it in hand. Some don’t care for the grip but I took to it right away.
